Some of the Ones I couldn't See, 2020 - 2023

On January 7, 2020, my daughter fell seriously ill. Overnight, she needed me by her side 24 hours a day. On that day, our confinement began: hers confined to a bed, and mine confined within my apartment. Without a view to the West, it became impossible for me to go out and see sunsets for several months. A neighboring building, which I despise for obstructing the view of the surrounding landscape, ironically became the only thing that allowed me to contemplate the sky. Through the glass of its 54 windows, I daily captured the reflection of the sky, transforming from a concrete barrier into an open screen to the landscape.

The project compiles a series of images captured through the reflection of those windows that allowed me to see sunsets during the period of my confinement. It also includes a series of 54 acrylic blocks, each printed with the reflection of a window from the first sunset I photographed. These blocks, arranged on a light table, materialize these reflections, becoming remnants of the landscape that enable the viewer to interact and construct their own sunsets.
